ICE has 170 “hold rooms” nationwide

March 21, 2026

The Colorado Times Recorder has written this article and created this map to show where 170 “hold rooms” exist throughout the country. 130 of the 170 are in ICE field offices or suboffices. On average, the data show 4,700 hold-room detentions per month under Biden, climbing to more than 14,000 per month under Trump. Between January and October 2025, there were over 5000 cases that exceeded the 72-hour legal time-limit for staying in a hold room.
